He clearly remembers walking into a professional studio for the first time on September 18, 1993, to study painting. He spent every moment painting except for eating and sleeping. His first award was after six months of study, winning first place in a citywide art competition. On his university application, He listed only Xiamen University because it was the best in Fujian. That year, fewer than five students from his county were admitted.
