As Chinese New Year nears, I reflect on finishing lacquerware art, tackling societal challenges like “involution,” and cherishing family reunions. My recent projects—a tea tray and tea plate—blend tradition with creativity, highlighting the beauty of craftsmanship and the importance of meaningful work.

This lacquered art tray began as a paper boat, folded by my daughter and destined for the trash. Intrigued by its creases and irregular folds, I preserved its shape with natural lacquer, adding layers to strengthen it. After over a month of work, its surface now displays a rust-like patina, embodying wabi-sabi beauty.
